Kleinwort Benson Yacht Challenge

Kleinwort Benson, the provider of banking and financial services to corporate and private clients in the UK and Channel Islands, is sponsoring the 43rd Kleinwort Benson Yacht Challenge in the Channel Islands. This is the ninth year running that Kleinwort Benson has been involved with the Yacht Challenge and this year’s race promises to be the biggest yet. It will be followed by a Caribbean themed party at the Guernsey Yacht Club for ticket holders.
The Yacht Challenge will take place on 2 June 2007, starting at St Aubin’s Bay, Jersey, at 8.30am. The course covers 26 nautical miles and is open to all members of Guernsey Yacht Club and St Helier Yacht Club. Sailors can become temporary members of Guernsey Yacht Club in order to compete in the event.
Last year the Yacht Challenge was won overall by Simon Henning, skipper of winning yacht Alice II. He was awarded a trophy by Angus Taylor, managing director of Kleinwort Benson, Jersey. This year, the full set of prizes to be awarded on the evening is:
- First (trophy), second, third, fourth and fifth overall
- First and second bilge keel
- First long keel
- First family crewed
- Young skipper
- First multihull
- First Melges 24
- First (trophy), second and third IRC class
- First, second and third non-IRC class
- First Beneteau class boat on CI handicap (trophy)
Full details of winners, including pictures of trophy winners being presented, will be supplied on the night of the event.
Kleinwort Benson is also sponsoring the annual Kleinwort Benson Cycle Challenge to be held in Jersey in September 2007 - the 10th anniversary of the cycle challenge. The sponsorship of these local events is part of Kleinwort Benson’s dedication and commitment to community initiatives in the Channel Islands.
